We all saw it—the glorious, jaw-dropping, wallet-terrifying
1/60 scale PGU RX-93 Nu Gundam unveiled at the Shizuoka Hobby Show. And then we saw the price tag: ¥66,000 (roughly RM2,100 for us Malaysians). That’s right, folks. For the cost of this kit, you could also buy:
A decent used motorcycle
A month’s worth of teh tarik and roti canai (with extra kaya)
Or, you know, groceries. Like an adult.
But wait! That’s just the Japanese retail price. If you’re outside Asia, brace yourself for the shipping, customs, and "because-we-can" import fees, which could easily push this bad boy past RM3,000.
Now, before you scream "Gila ke?!" and swear off plastic model kits forever, let’s talk strategy. Based on the PGU RX-78-2’s release chaos:
Preorder Early = Win – I snagged mine for under RM800 shipped, months before release.
Wait Too Long = RIP – Once stocks ran out, prices went full "wild west", skyrocketing to RM1,200-1,600 (or more, depending on how desperate people got).
So yeah, RM3,000 might feel like swallowing a Zaku’s heat hawk right now, but if history repeats itself? That could look like a steal later.
PS: If you want this Nu Gundam, preorder fast, cry once. Otherwise, prepare to cry and sell a kidney later. Happy building! (And maybe start a side hustle.)
