GTA 6 Appears to Run at 30 FPS
Published 9 May 2025
Excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 remains high after Rockstar released a stunning second trailer, but fans may need to manage their expectations regarding performance. Industry experts, particularly from Digital Foundry, suggest that GTA 6 will likely run at 30 frames per second on consoles. While the game appears to be one of the most technically complex and visually impressive ever made, this level of detail may come at the cost of higher framerates, which have become more standard in modern games.

Since the release of GTA 5 in 2013, anticipation for the next installment has only grown. With Rockstar finally revealing GTA 6 in 2023, the hype has reached new levels. The game’s latest trailer showcases impressive visuals and intricate world-building, but experts analyzing the footage note it was locked at 30 FPS and likely ran between 1080p and 1440p. This strongly suggests that the console version of GTA 6 may prioritize graphical fidelity and scale over ultra-smooth framerates.

The second trailer was captured on a PlayStation 5 and featured both cutscenes and gameplay, highlighting Rockstar's commitment to pushing hardware limits. Although performance could improve on a future PC version or next-gen hardware, nothing has been officially announced. Compounding the news is a delay in GTA 6’s release to 2026, which, while expected by industry watchers, has disappointed fans who were hoping to return to Vice City in 2025.
