Mafia: The Old Country will break from franchise tradition by not being an open-world game. Instead, it will offer a streamlined, linear experience that prioritizes its narrative. Launching on August 8, the game is set in early 1900s Sicily and promises a gritty, focused crime story over exploration-based gameplay.
Originally teased in 2022 and officially revealed at Gamescom 2024, the game places players in the role of Enzo, navigating family loyalty and honor. While Hangar 13 hinted at a more story-driven focus during early development, it was only recently confirmed through an official FAQ that the open-world format has been abandoned entirely for this entry.
Though the change in structure may shorten the game's length, Mafia: The Old Country is priced at a budget-friendly $49.99—significantly lower than most triple-A titles today. A Deluxe Edition is also available, offering exclusive outfits, weapons, and transportation options. Pre-orders are now open for what aims to be the most cinematic Mafia experience yet.
