The third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series might already be in development, according to a recent hint from Cloud Strife’s English voice actor, Cody Christian. This news comes after the success of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which explored the party’s adventures outside of Midgar and concluded shortly after the Temple of the Ancients. The upcoming sequel is expected to cover the rest of the original Final Fantasy 7 story, which is widely regarded as one of the best in the franchise.
Although Square Enix hasn’t provided a release date, key developers have stated that the story for the next game is finalized, and pre-production began back in mid-2022. Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared that the project has been progressing smoothly without any major delays. This has given fans hope that development is well on track, even though official updates have been sparse since Rebirth launched.
Recently, Cody Christian posted a photo of himself in a recording booth with a caption suggesting he’s back working with his "bestie," along with a small image of Cloud. While the post has since been deleted, it has led to speculation that voice recording for the third remake game may already be underway. If true, this suggests the game is deeper into development than previously expected. Alternatively, Christian could be working on another project involving Cloud, such as Kingdom Hearts 4, but fans are eagerly anticipating his return as the iconic hero in the final chapter of the remake trilogy.
