New Survival Game Fuses Psychological Horror With Classic Retro Cinema Vibes
Published 18 Apr 2025
Video Ghastlies, a new survival horror game from developer Katanalevy and publisher Oro Interactive, has debuted its first official trailer. Set to launch exclusively on PC via Steam, the game offers a mind-bending, surreal experience rooted in classic horror cinema. Players will explore multiple cinematic worlds, each inspired by different horror eras, as they unravel the mystery behind a missing brother and a strange new VHS format.

Taking cues from both retro video games and classic horror films, Video Ghastlies plunges players into VHS-themed realms like Silent Era Cinema, Italian Giallo, '80s Body Horror, and Found Footage. Each tape acts as a portal to a twisted world full of secrets, supernatural threats, and government conspiracies tied to the mysterious “Video Ghastlies” tapes. The game mixes psychological horror mechanics with a nostalgic storytelling style that evokes the golden age of horror cinema.

Players will explore these disturbing worlds using VHS tapes to unlock new areas, all while returning to a safe hub in the protagonist’s apartment. The game includes scavenging for unique weapons, solving challenging puzzles, and confronting nightmarish enemies and bosses. With its unique cinematic theme and eerie aesthetic, Video Ghastlies aims to stand out among both indie horror titles and larger genre franchises when it releases on PC.
