Game Source Entertainment has announced the 2025 release window for Ratatan, a spiritual successor to the beloved rhythm strategy game Patapon. The original Patapon was released in 2007 for the PSP and became a cult classic due to its unique blend of rhythm-based gameplay and strategy. With Ratatan, the developers aim to continue that legacy, appealing to fans who have long hoped for the return of this genre.
Ratatan will retain the core rhythmic gameplay mechanics from Patapon, where players use controller buttons to command an army in a rhythm-based battle system. However, the game will introduce new elements, including roguelike features, randomized power-ups, and a "fever mode" that enhances battle effectiveness when players keep to the beat. The game will also offer 4-player online co-op and improved visuals, including 4k graphics, making it a more modernized version of the original concept.
Set to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC, Ratatan is highly anticipated by fans of Patapon and rhythm-based games. Successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2023, the game has generated excitement for its fresh take on the Patapon formula. If Ratatan succeeds, it could lead to even more projects from the developers, expanding the game's universe further.
