Our Story: Our Evolution From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Community

Our journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to our community. From our modest start in a tiny apartment study room to the bustling, vibrant space we now call Base 1.3, every step has been fueled by our love for collecting and gaming. This story is not just about our growth as a business but about the connections we've made, the memories we've created, and the dreams we've realized together. Chapter 1: The Humble Beginnings – Base 1.0a (2012 - 2013)

In the early days of 2013, we began our journey from a modest 80 sqft storeroom. This tiny space, generously offered by a kind-hearted tuition teacher at her center in Relau, Penang, became our first operational base. The journey to this point had already been an adventure.

In 2012, our story started in an even smaller setting—a cozy apartment study room. Here, a mere 2 x 4 feet (8 sqft) of space was all we had, crammed with supplier boxes stacked up to 8 feet high.

In those days, the nights were our most productive hours. After clocking out from our full-time jobs, we would dive into packing orders, often working through the night. It wasn't unusual for us to finish packing only a few hours before dawn, catch a couple of hours of sleep, and then head straight to the post office as it opened. The early morning deliveries became a ritual, marking the beginning of another day in our quest to bring joy to toy enthusiasts.

This is just the beginning. Our next chapter will dive into how we transitioned from our initial Base 1.0a, moving from one "version" to the next, just like a meticulously crafted computer program. Each step forward, each upgrade, brings us closer to opening our first physical store, Base 1.3.

Chapter 2: Growth and Memories – Base 1.0 (2014 - 2017)

In November 2013, we took a significant step forward, setting up Base 1.0 in Prangin Mall, Georgetown, Penang. Officially opening its doors on January 1st, 2014, this new space was a considerable upgrade from our previous base. At approximately 450 sqft, located on the 5th floor, it offered us more room to breathe and grow.

Fondly known as the "little purple shop" at Prangin Mall, Base 1.0 was more than just a store. It became a hub of activity and a place where memories were created. Among these cherished moments, one stands out vividly: our first community event. Teaming up with an orphanage center, we organized a Spiderman movie session for the kids. Seeing their eyes light up as the movie began was a truly priceless experience that we hold dear.

For four years, Base 1.0 served us well, becoming a beloved spot for both our team and our customers. It was in this space that we laid down roots and grew stronger, building a foundation that would support our future endeavors. However, as time passed, our needs outgrew the space, prompting us to seek a larger location.

With a mix of nostalgia and excitement, we bid farewell to Base 1.0 and prepared for the next phase of our journey. Stay tuned for Chapter 3, where we will explore our move to Base 1.1 and the adventures that followed.

Chapter 3: A New Home - Base 1.1 (2018)

In early 2018, we made another significant leap by moving to Base 1.1 at Midland Park Centre. Once the hottest spot in Penang during the 90s, Midland Park had seen better days. Over the years, new shopping malls had sprouted up, and Midland Park gradually lost its shine, becoming a shadow of its former self. Today, many of its shop lots stand empty, and the high floors can be a bit eerie at night. However, this location offered us something invaluable: ample space and plenty of parking.

Base 1.1 gave us the room we needed to bring our office and playroom under one roof. The playroom was intended to be a chill-out space for our Paniacs, complete with a PS4 for gaming. However, to our surprise, few dared to enter. Feedback from our Paniacs revealed that they thought the room was only for the Panickers!

Our office was a cozy little room where team members could work comfortably side by side, fostering idea exchange and promoting better teamwork. This setup allowed us to collaborate more effectively and strengthen our bonds as a team.

Located on the 4th floor of Midland Park Centre, Base 1.1 was quite secluded. The aisle to the loading bay was particularly dark and spooky. One of our Panickers was especially scared of ghosts, prompting us to install LED lights to brighten up the entire aisle. For about a year, we transformed it into the brightest spot in the building before moving to Base 1.2, but we'll save that story for the next chapter.

Among the many memories at Base 1.1, one stands out: our first Halloween party-cum-buffet with our Paniacs. It was a night filled with fun, laughter, and delicious food, bringing our community closer together and creating memories that we cherish.

As we bid farewell to Base 1.1, we eagerly anticipate sharing the story of our move to Base 1.2 in the next chapter.

Chapter 4: Expanding Horizons - Base 1.2 (2019 - 2024)

A year into our stay at Midland Park Centre, opportunity knocked in the form of a vacant space previously occupied by one of the biggest music CD stores in Penang. This former warehouse, spanning a massive 3000 sqft, was too good to pass up. Without hesitation, we jumped at the chance and moved to Base 1.2.

The expansive new Base 1.2 provided ample room for more showcases and displays, much to the delight of our Paniacs. However, as the months rolled by and our inventory grew, even this generous space began to feel constrained. Eventually, we had to move out the displays to make room for the increasing stock.

Base 1.2 has given us some of our best memories to date. It was here that we hosted numerous events, from the Madwork Workshop to Merdeka Celebrations and even Valentine’s Day events. These gatherings brought our community closer and created lasting bonds among collectors.

For collectors in Penang, Base 1.2 was the go-to spot. It buzzed with activity and camaraderie until a new challenge arose—the central air-conditioning system was shut down. Each tenant had to install their own units, and due to some limitations, we were restricted to just one 2 HP air-con unit. This made the space quite heaty and cramped, especially during the day.

After a fruitful 5 years at Base 1.2, it’s time for us to bid farewell and embrace a new chapter at Base 1.3. The journey continues, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Chapter 5: A New Beginning – Base 1.3 (2024 - Current)

On July 1st, 2024, we took another giant leap forward by moving into our new Base 1.3. This move marked a fresh change of air and a significant upgrade from our previous locations. With a bigger space, better accessibility for our Paniacs, and a much more welcoming atmosphere, Base 1.3 is everything we hoped for and more.

Our vision for Base 1.3 is to create a one-stop haven for collectors and gamers alike. We want this space to be a place where our community can gather, chat away their weekends, hang around, and forge new friendships. It's designed to be a hub of activity, camaraderie, and fun for all who share our passion.

We are filled with hope and anticipation for the many good things and exciting events that will come to our new Base 1.3. From community gatherings to special events, we aim to make every moment memorable and engaging for our Paniacs.
